Hello! I'm planing to arrive on November 22 to Narita Airport, use the JR pass to get to Tokyo where I will be spending four days there (one day where I go to Disney) and then head to Osaka for three days. I will be leaving on the 29th from Osaka to the Airport. I am guessing that if I activate the JR pass on the day of my arrival, it will expire the day before I leave (28th). Do you suggest doing so and then buy a flight to Haneda airport from Osaka or would it be cheaper to activate my JR pass on the second day of my arrival and hence use it the last day to get to the airport?

Hi there,

It would be cheaper to buy tickets for your full trip instead of a JR Pass, this is because you just travel one way Tokyo - Osaka. A JR Pass starts making sense if you make a return between Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, I forgot to mention that I am indeed going from Osaka to both Kyoto and Nara.
