Hi there,
Local JR lines in Kyoto can be used. These extend to the west and south of Kyoto and cover tourist sights like Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari, Uji, Todaiji, Nijou castle and more. Other transport like the subway is not included.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
