If i am using the JR pass and traveling to Hakodate from Ueno station or from Tokyo station is there a transfer of train required?

Hi there,
You can take the Shinkansen from Ueno to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto station, from there you still need a local train to Hakodate city.
