Traveling from Tokyo to Fukuoka through Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima

Hello,

I'm traveling to Japan next month and am trying to figure out the best route/itinerary to get from Tokyo to Fukuoka. My final destination is Itoshima where I will spend about three weeks working on my artist project. I was informed that I will need to get from Fukuoka Airport to Ikisan station in order to get to Itoshima but this will be a regional train route.

I fly in to Tokyo Haneda on Dec 13 and I would like to make my way down to Fukuoka while visiting a few other cities on the way. I want to use JRP for the Shinkansen on this route from Tokyo to Fukuoka. I would like to stay in Tokyo two-three days then go to Kyoto >>>Osaka (both cities one-two days)>>>Hiroshima (one day)>>>Fukuoka ( how can I get to Ikisan station?)

I'm not sure if this route makes sense since whenever I put it into Hyperdia search ( or some type of modifications of this route) I don't get any search results. I would like to use JRP for this trip. I hope it's worth it.

I'm coming back in the second week of January to Tokyo and fly out on Jan 9th from Tokyo Narita. At that time I thought I would get back straight from Fukuoka to Tokyo without stopping on the way (then it's probably better to buy a different ticket than JRP – not worth it?). However, I could use the JRP pass and decide to do the initial travel backwards on my way back (Fukuoka>>>Hiroshima>>>Osaka>>>Kyoto>>>Tokyo.) Not sure what's best. Please help!

Please let me know what are the best ways to plan the itinerary and include these cities on this route. If you have better ideas for this trip or come up with the modification please share!

Thank you so much! Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi there,

I do think a 7-day Japan Rail Pass is worth it when used to go exploring on the route Tokyo - Fukuoka. The JR Pass allows you to get on and off the train at any time, without having to worry about budget or tickets. This could be either on the way down or back up to Fukuoka.

Ikisan station is not far out from Fukuoka on a local JR Chikuhi line. You can get there directly from Hakata station.

For the one way Fukuoka - Tokyo that you are not sightseeing, I would also recommend looking at a domestic flight. These can be found at fairly good prices when booked well in advance.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thank you so much, Daniel! I'm going to look into the domestic flights. I need one more clarification on the trip to Hiroshima from Osaka on the way to Fukuoka. Do you think Hiroshima is a good idea or is it too much to do on a 7-day JR Pass?

Thank you for your help!
Kalina
