Hi
We are in Japan arriving late on 4th October at Haneda airport, and departing Fukuoka on 22nd October. We are travelling around the country watching the rugby matches and seeing the sites. We intend to use a JR pass as much as possible.
When we arrive we are staying in Tokyo until 9th October, travelling around Tokyo to see the tourist sites and going to Tokyo stadium in Chofu on Saturday 5th for a match.
My question is: will a JR pass cover travel in Tokyo? If it does cover Tokyo travel, then it might be worth getting a 3 week pass. If not perhaps I should get a 2 week pass and activate it when I leave Tokyo.
Thank you
Nick

Hi Nick,
The JR Pass covers travel on the local JR Network in Tokyo, you can use it to access most parts of Tokyo. Some areas like Asakusa and Odaiba do not have JR stations and would need additional travels. Local travel on itself within Tokyo does not cost a lot and I would use a JR Pass for your intercity travel. That said, the JR Pass can be a very good excuse to make some day trips from Tokyo.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
