Hi there

Firstly thank you for your answer to my previous question - really helpful. I'm still in the process of sorting my itinerary and wanted to get your advice on this part of my trip. I am an artist and very keen to spend a couple of days on the island of Naoshima. I will be coming from Kyoto. I will then need to get to Takayama. Could you advise me on the best route and whether it would be best to break my journey to Takayama with an overnight stay in Kyoto?

Thanks again

Sam

Hi Sam,

Welcome back :) Route wise it would make more sense to go to Naoshima first and then go to Takayama but it is quite a few hours traveling and a break in between at Kyoto may actually be really nice if planned right.

Kind regards,
Daniel

HI Daniel

Thanks for getting back to me ! Really appreciate it. I've been looking at my route again and checking time. I will be coming from Kyoto where I will have spent almost week - I will then head to Naoshima and then have to get to Takayama - from what I can see ( and what you have said ) is that it will take 6 hours to do this so I was thinking it would be wise to plan an overnight in Kyoto to break up the trip. Does this sound about right?
Thanks in advance

Sam :)

Hi Sam,

Yes, it would, though if you want something different. Hikone could be a very nice 1 night stop.

Yet another alternative would be to travel via Kanazawa, it adds a bit more travel time but it is one of the cities in Japan you can fall in love with easily.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

HI Daniel

That's really helpful ! I had originally planned to visit Kanazawa before Takayama but having to sacrifice this to see the art in Naoshima as I'm an artist and all my artist friends have recommended it!
thanks for your tip re Hikone - could you advise me how I would get there from Naoshima and then onto Takayama? thanks again!

Sam
