Hi! Is there any chance of buying the JR pass and not being able to use it because it is too busy and I will arrive in Japan after the Olympics have already started.

I don't care to go stand or in not reserved seats, I'm just afraid of not being able do attend to my ticket commitments from my Shizuoka hotel and not being able to return to the hotel either.

What are the expectations?

Thank you!!!

Hi there,

Pre-covid times, this may have been a concern. At the moment trains in Japan are very quiet, and it will be a long time before we see busier trains. Even with the Olympics going ahead, I expect there will be limits on how many people are allowed to travel to Japan. In short, I do not expect trains to be full at all.

Even then, the JR Pass allows you to make seat reservations for free. Doing so a day or 2 in advance of any travel you may want to do will secure your seat.

Kind regards,
Daniel
