I am travelling to Japan with my friend on March 8 for 15 days. We land in Tokyo for a few days, then travel to Yokohama for a few days then travel to Osaka for a number of days, before heading to Kyoto and then back to Tokyo.
Do we need a JR pass and if so, can i still get it before the trip or are we able to get in in Narita airport? Also, can we use regional or other passes instead as my friend suggested?

Traveling between Tokyo - Kyoto is best done with a Japan Rail Pass, as there is no regional pass which covers the Tokaido Shinkansen between Tokyo station and Kyoto station. Which by far is the fastest way to make this trip.
You can order the Japan Rail Pass online here you could also get one upon arrival but the price is higher by 10-20%.
