Hi. I’ll be going to Japan this winter with my family. We’ve decided to go to Saporo as one of our destinations. How do we get there using Japan Rail Pass? The second leg of the journey from Shin-Hakodate to Sapporo seems to require another special pass. ( that’s what I understood from my reading). Would like to know how to get to Sapporo using the national JRP only. Thank you in advance.
Tokyo to Sapporo
Hi there,
You can go to Sapporo using the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto using the Hayabusa Shinkansen and then a ltd. express train from there to Sapporo, the full route takes about 7 hours. All of this, as well as all JR trains in Hokkaido are covered by the JR Pass and no further tickets or passes would be required.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
