Hi, we are travelling from Tokyo to Osaka and back within 7 days. Plan is to have a green class ticket. No other travel planned. Is it worth it to buy the JRP for first class? Can the JRP also be used for local transport (within Tokyo and Osaka) or is it just for rail transport between cities?

Hi there,

The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is nearly the same as a normal return ticket. Any additional travel would quickly help you make savings, even if it is just to the airport or on local JR lines in cities like Tokyo and Osaka.

For instance you can use the JR Yamanote loop line and JR Chuo central line to Tokyo, in addition to many other JR lines. Other transport like the metro is not included.
