Tokyo-Nikko-Kitakami-Tokyo

In a last ditch effort to see Sakura this year I'm thinking of using our last 2 days of the JR pass to visit Kitakami on the 24th of April.

The itinerary would look like this:
4/23 - Tokyo to Nikko (spend the night)
4/24 -Nikko to Kitakami all day and return to Tokyo in the evening.

This is a last minute idea and I'm thinking it may be a bit rush or near impossible to enjoy with so much travel. Is it even possible with the JR pass or will it be too expensive with non-JR trains?

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you

Hi there,

You could certainly do this if you want, the JR Pass fully covers the route and using the Shinkansen, it would not take a lot of time to reach Kitakami. Besides, the journey is part of the fun. Buy a yummy bento box for on the train, something to read or listen and enjoy the landscape pass by.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
