Hello,

I will be in Japan for 14 days in April and I am planning to purchase the 14 day jr pass as we wish to visit Tokyo,Osaka, Kyoto, hakone and koyosan mountain.

I am trying to figure out the best way to plan my itinerary (arrival and departure from narita airport) so I can make the most of my jrpass.

My main question is :is it better to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto through hakone (overnight stay) or better to go back to Tokyo from hakone and then travel the next day to Kyoto ? Can I use my jrpass from hakone to Kyoto? I understand that I can use my jrpass for a part of my trip from Tokyo to hakone but I am struggling to find information using jrpass from hakone to Kyoto.

I would really appreciate your help 😊

Thank you,

Evie

Hi Evie,

The Shinkansen station for Hakone is Odawara and directly on the route between Tokyo and Kyoto. This makes for a great base to explore Hakone from and then travel onwards from. It is fairly simple to be honest :)

Hope this helps :)
Daniel
