Tohoku and hokkaido in March

Hi Daniel-san! I will travel to Japan for my son's graduation at Hakodate, but before the day we want to travel from Tokyo up to hokkaido.this is my plan:

9 march: arrive 7.30 at Narita.go to kawazu to catch sakura.stay at Tokyo.
10 march: Tokyo to nikkò then sendai .stay at matsushima
11 march: explore sendai and around
12 march: sendai to hiraizumi.stay at Ichinoseki
13 march: explore around ichinoseki? Or better go another place?
14 march : want to go shiraikami sanchi but I read no public transportation until April
15 march: hakodate
16 march: hakodate
17 march: hakodate to sapporo and otaru
18 march: around sapporo
19 march: flight from sapporo to tokyo
20 march: depart from narita

Actually, I want to visit lake Towada and shiraikami sanchi but I read there is no public transportation from November until april. I intend to buy Jr east south Hokkaido.Do you think the pass suit my itinerary? I Need your suggest and correction.thank you before.fyi. I have traveled Hokkaido before, so this time focus on Tohoku.

Hi there!

Your plan looks really nice! Wish I had some it for my graduation years ago.

Ichinoseki looks like a nice place to visit, there are beautiful hikes to be made around Geibiki and Mt. Kurikoma.

I can confirm that there is no public transport before to end of April to shiraikami sanchi. Your only option would be to go by (rental car). I would suggest a JR East - Southern Hokkaido Rail Pass. for your trip.

Tohoku is massive and not every part is interesting. That said, there are some really nice places that can be reached with a bit of planning. I think you may also enjoy a visit to Yamadera and/or lake Towada.

Thank you Daniel - san for your reply. For rental car I have no international driving licence😶.About lake towada and yamadera , are these places have public transportation around mid march? Thank you

Yamadera can be accessed by JR local train all year. Lake Towada does need a car in March but can be accessed by JR Bus in April - Sep.
