Hello,

I leave from Boston on March 29th and arrive to Japan on March 30th and then leave Japan on April 9th to fly back to Boston. I have a few question

  1. When is the last day I should buy a rail pass?
  2. How does getting a reservation with this ticket?
  3. I exchange my voucher for the rail pass at the airport when I arrive?
  4. Does price of the ticket vary?
  5. Plan to start my trip in Tokyo and take a few days in Kyoto and Osaka or Hiroshima and then back to Tokyo for the rest of my trip. Should I buy a 7 or 14 day ticket?
  6. Thoughts on travel in Osaka vs. Hiroshima?

Hi Jessica,

1.) We need to ship the JR Pass to your address in Bosten. I would not wait to long with placing an order.

2.) Here is how to make seat reservations.

3.) You can do so directly at the airport when you arrive.

4.) The price in Yen is always the same but the cost in your local currency can change depending on the exchange rate.

5.) Either a 7 day or 14 day JR Pass would work here. A 7 day JR Pass is recommended if you can return to Tokyo before it expires. Otherwise I'd use a 14 day JR Pass.

6.) Both are great places to visit. Osaka really is a city to enjoy the local food, small shops and atmosphere. While Hiroshima is worth visiting for the Peace park and making a trip to Miyajima.
