Hello Daniel,

We are two women leaving Nagoya traveling to Kyoto, the 16th of March. We leave Kyoto traveling to Tokyo early the 19. What is the best mode of travel for us? Does it make sense to buy a pass or will tickets at the time of travel be fine?

Thank you for this site. It is a wonderful resource.

Hi Jerri,

The price of tickets for Nagoya -> Kyoto & Kyoto -> Tokyo is about 6.000yen below the cost of the 7-day JR Pass. Unless you do any other travel, buying normal tickets outright would make the most sense.

That said, 6.000yen is not a huge amount to cover and adding a side trip here or there could quickly make the JR Pass worth it.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
