Strolling in Kyoto then travelling from Kyoto to Osaka and Osaka to Tokyo using JR Pass

Hi Daniel-san,

My family plan to visit Japan for 8 days in June/July 2018. We plan to buy the JR Pass which costs 29,110 yen for each. My questions are:
1. What type of JR Pass is it?
2. Does it cover the HIKARI and KODAMA shinkansen since we plan to go to Mt Fuji via Hakone for 1 day and continue to Kyoto?
3. Does JR Pass serve city transportation in Kyoto and Osaka?
4. What do you suggest for our transportation for this itinerary:
Day 1: Tokyo to Mt Fuji, enjoy Mt Fuji all day, then heading to Kyoto at night Day 2: enjoy Kyoto all day, then heading to Osaka at night Day 3: enjoy Osaka Day 4: enjoy Osaka, then heading back to Tokyo in the evening The rest days we will stay in Tokyo.

Hi there,

1.) That would be the 7 day JR Pass, valid nation wide on any JR line.

2.) Yes.

3.) Local JR Lines are covered. Other transport like the bus and subway are not.

4.) A 7 day JR Pass for the long trips, to Kyoto, Osaka and back to Tokyo. Then look at local passes if needed, this will mostly depend on what you want to see and do in each city. For instance, you can buy a 500yen all day bus ticket in Kyoto and in Osaka, the Osaka unlimited pass has great value.
