Should I get a 7 day or 14 day JR pass?

I'll be heading to Japan for the first time in a couple of weeks and I'm looking into buying a JR pass to save some money. My itinerary is:

7/1 - HIJ to Hiroshima

7/2 - Hiroshima

7/3 - Miyajima

7/4 - Okunoshima & Himeji

7/5 - Osaka

7/6 - Kobe/Osaka

7/7 - Osaka-->Nara -->Kyoto

7/8 - Kyoto

7/9 - Kyoto

7/10 - Kyoto

7/11 - Kyoto --> Shinjuku then bus to 5th station to start Mt. Fuji Climb

7/12 - End Mt. Fuji Climb / Fujikawaguchiko

7/13 - Fujikawaguchiko

7/14 - Fujikawaguchiko --> Tokyo

7/15 - Tokyo

7/16 - Day trip to Nikko

Then from 7/17 - 7/22 I'll be staying in Tokyo near Shinjuku and leaving out of Narita so I plan to use a suica card. If the 14 day pass is best I would activate it on 7/3, and I believe the last day to use it would be on 7/16 with my day trip to Nikko (please correct me if I'm wrong).

If a 7 day pass is better, what day should I activate it to save the most? Thanks in advance everyone!

Hi there,

I must say it is hard to match a 7-day JR Pass to your travel, as the trips that cost the most, are more than 7-days apart. These are Hiroshima - Himeji - Osaka and Kyoto - Tokyo. You also don't do enough travel for a 14-day JR Pass to be cost efficient. As is, I think just buying tickets is the best option.

Kind regards,
Daniel
