Hi there,

The JR Pass is the only pass that covers your itinerary and you cover so many miles that you'd be making very good use of a Japan Rail Pass.

So in short, get the 14 day JR Pass :)

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi,

Renting a car in Hokkaido often makes sense - Hokkaido is very big, and trains/buses often don't go to many good places (at least conveniently).

It all depends on where you will go sightseeing of course. But it's better to just rent a car on various day trips - in Japan, drop off charges can be very high, and fuel is expensive too. So you could go to Obihiro for example, and rent a car for the day, go to Asahikawa, rent a car for a day....

In short, you should consider both.
