I travelled recently to Japan and had a 14 day rail pass. I was at Takayama and was wanting to reserve onward travel. For a journey from Takayama to Hiroshima and then from Hiroshima to Nara. I wanted to catch the Shinkansen Hikari Rail Star Super Express. I was told by your staff member at Takayama that I was not eligible to catch this train as it is a fast train and my rail pass is not valid for use on this train. When I arrived in Hiroshima I asked about travelling on this train but I was told that it was sold out. I believe I was entitled to travel on this train.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. Please note that we are an agent for the Japan Rail Pass and not JR itself.

What I can tell you is that the Hikari Rail Star Super Express is rarely in service and now the Sakura Shinkansen travels on the same route. Maybe that caused some confusion.

I'm sorry that I can't help further here, I would suggest contacting JR Central (who operate the JR office at Takayama) if you wish pursue an official complaint.

Kind regards,
Daniel
