Hello!

2 adults and 2 kids 1 and 3 y.o.
the route:
Kansai airport-Osaka, departure from airport approx 14.30 on 12th
Osaka-Nara
Nara-Shirahama
Shirahama-Kyoto
Kyoto-Tokyo planning trip 14.00-17.00 on 19th

  1. Is it worth to buy JR pass?
  2. Nara-Shirahama, is there a route of JR and how long it takes?
  3. Can we use bullet trains with JR pass with some surchage?
  4. May kids take free seats or should take 1 seat with adult?
  5. how 7 days are calculating? as you see we are going to Tokyo "inside" 7 days and arrive there "outside".

Thank you in advance.

Hi Andrey,

1.) The cost of a JR Pass will be lower than the cost of normal tickets for this route. That said, you can make savings on the first part of your trip within Kansai using a Kansai Area Pass for travel to Nara and Shirahama. Then buy a one way ticket Kyoto - Tokyo using the Shinkansen.

2.) For travel times, I recommend learning to plan with Hyperdia this way you can find any route/timetable and more. It's a great tool for planning with the JR Pass. We also have a useful interactive map with all JR lines included.

3.) You can use the bullet train for free if you do have a JR Pass.

4.) Kids 1-5 are free 6-11 can use a child pass and 12+ is considered adult.

5.) Days are counted in consecutive order.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
