Hi, I have bought a 14 day JR pass and intend to use it from day 1 when I touch down at Narita Airport.

  1. My plane arrives at 7.30am. Would there be a long queue at JR office normally?

  2. I plan to take 10.44am train to hokkaido from Tokyo on the same day. Can I make it? Would the train be sold out given the increase in tourists?

  3. Would it be difficult to book night train from Tokyo to himeji? I intend to use it 1 week plus after i reach Japan.

Thank you.

Hi there,

1.) It depends on many factors, last time I landed I was done in about 10 minutes, but we have heard reports of people waiting about an hour.

2.) Yes, that should be no issue when going on a normal day (i.e. not a national holiday). The majority (95+ of travellers are still Japanese/locals, so a few extra tourists is not an issue.

3.) Yes, this train is very popular and unlikely that can be booked, unless you could do it right away when ticket are released (1 month ahead of time). I tried on my last trip and could not find a spot.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thank you very much.

Just to confirm that I can only make any reservations after I validate my jr pass?
