Peak Season / Green Class

Hello Daniel,

We are getting ready to purchase the JR Pass and wanted to know if the end of September is high peak season that we should purchase the Green Class JR Pass. We will be traveling to the following destinations: Tokyo, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji, Hakone, Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima.

I understand the that both Green and Ordinary Class offer reserved seating on the Shinkansen and Express trains. Do ALL trains have Green Class carriages or is it just the Shinkansen and Express Trains that have Green Class carriages?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mary,

Most intercity trains and Shinkansen have Green Class seats. As far as I can see, travel to Tokyo, Kamakura, Hakone (Odawara station), Kyoto and Hiroshima all have Green Seats available. The end of September is not considered a peak season but it is a period that more tourists are travelling.
