Hi there,

I think you'll fly out of Tokyo? In that case I would just buy normal tickets as you travel.

A 7 day JR Pass is a good option in case you'd make a return Tokyo - Kyoto.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

HI Daniel
thank you for the reply. sorry for not being so clear . My itinerary will be flying into Osaka Kansai stay there a few days >> travel to Kyoto for a few days>> travel to Tokyo for few days. Each of these three cities will act as our base camp at night time .
In your opinion we do not need to buy the JR Pass going from Osaka>>Kyoto>> Tokyo but just buy normal tickets. However we do not intend to just staying put at each city. From each city we would like to venture out to the surrounding cities and come back to our main base city at night time. Thus wouldn't it be better to buy the JR pass instead of the normal tickets. your advice

Hi again,

I still think buying tickets is likely the better option. That said, it would depend how far you travel out and what side trips you make. Going by Shinkansen can add travel cost quickly but staying on local trains won't.

1) Osaka Kansai airport to Osaka 1.200yen
2) Osaka to Kyoto 560yen
3) Kyoto to Tokyo 14.500yen

Are all straight forward where you take a direct train from one to the other. I've added approximate prices.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
