We are traveling December 14 to January 2. With some of this time being peak season, I am concerned about the availability of reserving 8 seats. If we purchase the Green Class pass and seats are not available together, can we reserve ordinary seats?

Yes, that's possible :)
However, the best approach is just to reserve seats as soon as you can. You won't have any trouble reserving seats for the holidays when you do it around the 14th of Dec.
