Hello!

I can't decide if I should buy a 1 or 2 week pass! Please advise on my upcoming itinerary.

Tokyo, Mar 28-Apr 1
Kyoto, Apr 1-4 (Shinkansen Tokyo to Kyoto on 4/1)
Osaka, Apr 4-7
Tokyo, Apr 7-10 (Shinkansen Osaka to Tokyo on 4/7)

If I activate a one week pass on 4/1, I will still be able to take the return trip from Osaka to Tokyo on 4/7, right? It's tight, but seems to work.

My question is, will I need the JR pass during my stays in Tokyo? I figured I could use a Suica card to ride trains and subways there.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Mark,

I do think a 7-day JR Pass makes sense going from Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka and Tokyo. Starting your JR Pass on April 1st would mean that it expires on April 7th. As you said, it's tight but would work.

Travel within Tokyo is low-cost compared to intercity travel. So using a Suica card to pay your fares works out well.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
