Hi there,

Here's my itinerary :

7 April = Depart 07.00 from Osaka - ..........
8 April = ...........
9 April = Depart 20.00 for Tokyo - ...........

I was wondering if you can help to decide the best way and the cheapest way (if possible using JR pass) to travel between those 4 places.
I'm planning to stay (2 nights in Numazu) or (1 night in Hakone + 1 night in Numazu), I'd prefer staying 2 nights in Numazu, as it is cheaper. But, if staying 1night Hakone + 1night Numazu will be the best way for the routes, then it's fine. Some things to consider:

  1. I wanted to experienced the Hakone city tour
  2. For Kawaguchiko, I only wanted to have a photo stop of Mt.Fuji
  3. 5-6 hours of shopping in Gotemba outlet
  4. Can I took a great pictures with Mt. Fuji from Numazu or Hakone or Gotemba? If yes, then it is okay for me to skip the Kawaguchiko trip.

I hope you can help me out with my confusion. Thank you very much.

Hi,
If your primary interest is good shots of Mt. Fuji, then Hakone will serve you just fine, as you can see here. So you don't need to go all the way to the 5 Lakes. The only issue is the weather, which is notoriously uncooperative in Japan.

A JR Pass can only get you part way there. Take the bullet train from Osaka and get off at Mishima Stn., then to save money, buy a Hakone Free Pass. You can save money with it to see Gotemba and Hakone. After seeing the area, return but go to Odawara Stn., then catch the next bullet train into Tokyo. The Hakone Loop Course is a common way to see the area.

However, you don't give your full itinerary, and if you're only going oneway from Osaka to Tokyo, a JR Pass would not pay off for you.

Good luck.

Hi Toraneko,

Thankyou for your reply.
So I will not go to Kawaguchiko then, thanks for the info!
This is only a bit part of my trip as I will be in Osaka and Kyoto for 4 days and Tokyo for 3 days.

So where do you reccomend me to stay during my Gotemba-Hakone trip? I've look the accommodation in the Gotemba Outlet area, but I don't quite like it. The one that I like located in Numazu.
Is it a wise choice to stay 2 nigts in Numazu?
Can you tell me the best time arrangement to travel beetween Numazu - Hakone - Gotemba?

Thank you very much

Regards,
Martha

Hi,
I can't decide what hotel suits you best - you know yourself better than anyone. It's all up to your budget and what you want in your hotel. There are some good hot spring inns in Hakone though if you like and can afford it.

You can see regular fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia.
Under "More Options", be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box since you can't ride that train using the pass.

Good luck.
