Need passports to buy 10+ JR Passes?

Hi there,

In most cases there is no need to send a scanned copy of your passport.

You can place an order online here and we will only ask for extra documents in case there is a concern about eligibility.

I actually was about to try placing an order. One of the staffs from jrpass.com inform me this "Please note that above 10 passes, we require passport verification. Could you kindly also send us all the passengers passport copies?"

I feel a bit uncomfortable having to send all my family members passports.

Just to confirm. Do we need a passport to order the passes?
