Hi. For our vacation, we will be headed to Mt. Fuji straight from our arrival at Narita. Using our JR Pass, I am familiar with the route from Tokyo Station to Odawara st., then shift to local train. After our stay in the Mt. Fuji area we would like to proceed to Naoshima Island. Someone suggested we take the JR line from Odawara to Nagoya, Nagoya to Okayama then local train/bus to Bizen Tai station where we got an Air BnB. Another guide told us to go back to Tokyo Station and take the JR line to Okayama. Which is the best time, time-wise? Thanks!

Hi there,

It may depend what time you travel. Sometimes the best route can be different depending on what hour you travel and what train connections are possible. The most forward route to me looks like to get on the Shinkansen at Odawara to Okayama (likely with a transfer at Shin-Osaka or an other shinkansen station). Then a local line to your AirBnB or to Uno where you can get on the ferry to Naoshima.

To be sure, check your travel time in Hyperdia. It should be able to tell you the best option. Alternatively, just tell the JR Staff when booking your tickets, when and where you want to travel and they'll find the best route for you.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
