We're going to be traveling a lot and I'm not sure if the JR Rail pass covers just the long distances or if it also includes shorter travel.
We will be in Osaka and doing day trips to Kobe, and Kyoto. Then in Tokyo for a few days. So while in Tokyo will the JR pass also be able to get us to stations like shinjuku, harajuku, shibuya, etc.? And similar for Osaka?

Hi Mer,
The JR Pass covers the entire JR Network nation wide, including all bullet train lines. As well as local JR lines in cities like Tokyo and Osaka. An example is the JR Yamanote loop line, that stops at all major stations in Tokyo. Like Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, Tokyo and so on. There's a similar loop line in Osaka.
