Hi,
we will travel in Japan from 6th to 17th of August.
2 adults, 3 children (13, 9, 6).
Our route:
Aug 6th to 10th morning: Narita/Tokyo
Aug10th to 13th : Kyoto, and Nara
Aug 13th to16th : Hakone (plan to discover the area and leave on the 16th morning ),
Ag 16/17th somewhere around Narita Airport

I am lost between all railway companies and lines included in JR pass network.
the questions:
1/ is a National JR Pass suitable for us? does our 6 year old child need one too ?
2/ where can I find online the train timetables between all these cities ( as we will use the JR network)?

thanks

Hi there,

Yes, a 7 day Japan Rail Pass would the the best option here. The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is similar to the cost of a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for about the same price.

For travel times, I recommend learning to plan with Hyperdia this way you can find any route/timetable and more. It's a great tool for planning with the JR Pass. We also have a useful interactive map with all JR lines included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
