We are arriving Narita on April 24 and will stay in Tokyo until April 28. On April 28 we will travel to Kyoto with some trips to Osaka, Nara and a couple of other places in the Kyoto area returning to Tokyo on May 4. Would it make sense to get a JR Pass for April 28 - May 4 travel? In the next 2-3 weeks we will book several trips to areas around Kyoto. My understanding that when we get our Pass at the Tokyo station we should give an agent our itinerary and they could book us various train tickets.

Hi there,
Yes, a 7 day JR Pass would make sense here, given that you'd use it to travel to Kyoto and back to Tokyo.
It is indeed correct, that you can book your itinerary that way :)
Hope this helps,
Daniel
