We will have the japan rail pass (14 day) and will be traveling from Kanazawa to Takayama. What is the fastest and most efficient way to get there? By train or by bus? If we take the train, how should we get there?

Hello there,
The fastest way is to take the Shinkansen from Kanazawa to Toyama station and a ltd. express train from there to Takayama.
I'd advise checking Hyperdia to find the best route for your time of travel.
