JRPASS travel question

Hello,

My family and I will be travelling to Japan for the first time in mid August for 2 weeks. Arriving in Tokyo on August 16th for one night, then travelling to Kyoto for 7 days. During those 7 days, we will be planning some day trips to Osaka and other day trips in the Kyoto and Osaka area. After those 7 days, we'll be heading back to Tokyo for the remainder of the trip. We definitely are going considering the 7 day unlimited travel pass. The real question is that we are not sure if we should be purchasing the 14 day pass instead.

Based on our itinerary, should we just get the 7 day pass and just pay as we go for the stops around Tokyo? Or get the full 14 day pass?

Some guidance on this would be super helpful.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hello there,

The JR Pass works best for longer trips, think Tokyo to Kyoto or Kyoto to Hiroshima. Covering local travel with it is nice, but is not where the real value of the pass lies.

So with that in mind the 7-day pass would be a better option.

Kind regards,
Daniel
