This is our itinerary:
August 13: Osaka Airport early arrive --> Visit Nara --> train to Hiroshima / Overnight Hiroshima
August 14: Visiting Hiroshima / Overnight Hiroshima
August 15: Train Hiroshima - Tadanoumi and Train Tadanoumi - Kyoto
August 16: Explore Kyoto
August 17: Explore Kyoto
August 18: Explore Kyoto / Train to Hakone
August 19: Explore Hakone Region/Fuji and Transport to Shibuya
August 21: Explore Tokyo
August 22: Explore Tokyo
August 23: Tokyo to Narita Airport

JR West is valid for 5 days so for 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 august and the JR Pass is valible for 7 days.
It looks like the JR West + Seperate ticket to Hakone and Hakone/Tokyo is cheaper then the 7 day JR Pass.

Is that correct?

What are the advantages to take the 7 day JR pass instead of the 5 day west pass?
Can we use same trains in Kansai / Hiroshima region with the JR west 5 day as the JR pass 7 days?
Is the only difference the region? Because I was also reading something about Nozomi trains etc...

Hi,
I presume you are referring to the Kansai Wide Area Pass. You are right that the Wide Pass plus a regular fare ticket to Tokyo comes up less than the full JR Pass. Also yes, you can take the Nozomi on the Kansai Wide Area Pass. However, the Wide Pass only covers up to Kurashiki just beyond Okayama City. If you want to go to Hiroshima, you'll need the JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass. If you look at the coverage maps of the regional passes, many cover some smaller non-JR lines that the full JR pass doesn't, but it's irrelevant for your plans.

You can see regular fares, routes and schedules on Hyperdia.
Under "More Options", be sure to uncheck the Nozomi box since you can't ride that train using the full JR pass.

Good luck.

I'm referring to the JR Kansai Hiroshima Pass that has Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima etc all in.

But I'm not sure if it has same coverage as the default JR Pass.

Thanks,

Hi,

The full JR Pass covers all JR routes nationally, as expected, while the regional passes only cover certain areas. You can see the coverage map of the JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass in the link above.

The JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass plus a regular fare ticket from Kansai to Tokyo does in fact come up cheaper than the 7 day JR Pass, but not by much.

Best of luck.
