Hi, is it easier to reach Kōya-San from Nara or from Kyoto. I'll stay some nights in Kyoto and then I'll visit Nara last day. The day after I would like to move to Kōya-San. The question is: it is easier and better to leave from Kyoto or from Nara? In the second case I'll spend the last night in Nara instead to come back to Kyoto.
Which train have I to take with JR pass?
Many thanks!

Hi Elisabetta,

Frankly, there is not that much difference travelling from Nara, Kyoto or even Osaka to Koya-san. You can reach Nara from each place in 60-90 minutes.

The JR Pass does not covered travel to Koya-san, as there are no JR lines going to Koya-san. Instead you have to use the Nankai express, you can use the JR Pass to travel to Hashimoto station and from there you can transfer to the Nankai express.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
