I will be staying in Tokyo for 6 days, then Osaka for additional 3 days, do I need the JR pass or JR Osaka-Tokyo Hokuriku Arch Pass? What is the difference between the two? Will both pass cover my go around in Tokyo?

Hi there,

The JR Osaka-Tokyo Hokuriku Arch Pass only allows travel between Osaka and Tokyo using the Hokuriku Area route. This takes roughly 3 hours longer than using the Tokaido Shinkansen, which is covered by the Japan Rail Pass.

Reasons to consider the JR Osaka-Tokyo Hokuriku Arch Pass are:
-You are on a budget and don't mind the extra travel time (thus preferring the lower price over the Japan Rail Pass). -You would like to make a stop on the route, like Kanazawa or Nagano.

If you want to fastest way between Tokyo - Osaka, then using the Japan Rail Pass is the best option.

Both passes cover the local JR Network in Tokyo and Osaka.

Kind regards,
Daniel
