JR Pass or Individual

Hi, I will be arriving into Narita Airport in mid March and will depart from there also at the end of March.

My itinerary is as follows:

Tokyo
Kyoto
Hiroshima and Miyajima Island
Tokyo

Would a 14 day JR pass be better for the travel between these cities or would it be more economical to pay for them individually?
Does the pass cover travel to & from Narita Airport?
Also do I need an individual pass for each of the cities to use their public transport? If I decide to visit Nagano would this be covered too?

Many thanks.

Hi there,

For your itinerary, individual tickets are likely more cost-effective than a 14-day JR Pass. However, if you will be spending a significant amount of time in Tokyo, a 7-day JR Pass could be useful for long-distance Shinkansen travel (Tokyo-Kyoto-Hiroshima-Tokyo).

The JR Pass is valid for travel to and from both Narita Airport and Nagano.

While you can board local trains freely with your JR Pass, you will need to make seat reservations for all Shinkansen (bullet train) journeys.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
