JR pass from Narita (night time) - Osaka - Kyoto - Tokyo

Hi,
We are planning to go to Japan this coming April (14/4 - 24/4/17)
We will arrive around 6.40pm at Narita Airport.

Our rough itinerary would be:
14/4 - Narita to Osaka (night time by Shinkansen)
15-17/4 - Osaka
18 - 20/4 - Osaka - Kyoto on 18/4
20/4 - Kyoto - Tokyo
24/4 - To Narita Airport

  1. Is there any possibility to catch the last Shinkansen to Osaka on 14/4/17 using JR Pass? As we will only arrive late evening.
  2. If yes, can we hop on Shinkansen from Narita Airport? Or How can we get to the Shinkansen station?
  3. Or would you recommend a night stay in Tokyo and only start using the JR Pass on 15/4/16 from Tokyo to Osaka?
  4. Would you recommend using a regional JR Pass from 21/4 onwards? Which one should i choose and does it covers the trip back to Narita Airport?

Hi there,

I am afraid that there are no night trains in Japan and public transport shuts down between 0:00 - 6:00. My advise would be to stay your first night near Narita Airport or in Tokyo and travel on the following morning. There are no possible train connections with the JR Pass with a 6:40 arrival.

I would recommend using a 7 day for travel to Osaka and back to Kyoto, this will give you the best value from the pass. Then buy normal tickets for the remaining days in Tokyo. You could look at using day tickets for the Tokyo Metro.

Hi,
Several hotels in Narita have discounted prices that Tokyo and have a free transfer from the Airport to the Hotel and the hotel to the Airport.
