JR pass for Kansai

Hi,

May I know if the JR pass can be used within the Kansai region? To take buses and subways using the Japan rail pass. Or do I have to get local passes like the amazing Osaka Dua pass and the Kyoto city bus and subway pass.

Hi,
You cannot use the JR pass on city buses and subways. The JR Pass can be used for travel between cities, and in a very limited way in them, such as in Kyoto from Kyoto Station to Arashiyama, or on the Nara Line to Uji and Nara, obviously.

Take care in choosing any Kansai regional pass - there are many, but you really do have to do a lot of travel on them to make one pay off.
