My wife and my mother in law are in Japan currently using a 7 day pass. It appears the pass will expire before their return to Narita . They inquired with a JR agent in Osaka about extending their pass a few days. They were told extensions can only be done in Tokyo.
Can their passes be extended a few days (2-3 days)? Please advise.

Sorry to hear you've been told differently but JR Passes can't be changed in duration once issued.
