Hi, I'm hoping to get some helpful advice/suggestion for a trip I'm doing pretty soon! Mostly, whether or not I should be getting a JR pass - if it's going to be worth it, or not. (Also, if my plan is a little over-ambitious.)

Day 1: Narita, Tokyo
Day 2: Tokyo (Whole day at Disneyland)
Day 3: Tokyo
Day 4: Tokyo (Day trip to Nikko)
Day 5: Hakone (Traveling from Tokyo to Hakone)
Day 6: Kyoto (Traveling from Hakone to Shinjuku (Tokyo) to Kyoto)
Day 7: Kyoto (Day trip to Nara)
Day 8: Kyoto (Contemplating a day trip to Takayama/Shirakawago)
Day 9: Kyoto
Day 10: Osaka (Traveling from Kyoto to Osaka)
Day 11: Osaka

So I was wondering:
(a) if I should purchase a 7-day pass for day 4 to day 10? (b) the number of times I can take the shinkansen? (c) if my plan for the day trips is a little ambitious?

Thank you so much! Will really appreciate any input at all!

Hello there,

It will depend on the visit to Takayama. A JR Pass would be well worth it if you make this trip. Otherwise you would be just below the cost of a 7 day JR Pass and it would make more sense simply to buy normal tickets.

The JR Pass does cover all the trips you wish to make but you may still need additional local travel that is not included, the bus between Takayama - Shirakawago is also not included in the JR Pass.

Your trips does look busy. It works fine if you want to see the more historic sights of Japan but it could also be nice to stay a bit longer in the bigger cities like Tokyo and Kyoto.

Have a good trip!
Daniel
