hello,

i'm debating whether to get a 7 or 14 day jr pass. we will be in Japan a total of 14 days, but travelling out of tokyo for only 5 days.

tokyo - 3/16-3/20
kansai region - 3/20-24 (staying in osaka, with day trips to kyoto, nara & hiroshima)
back to tokyo - 3/24-3/30

will the price difference between the 7-day & 14-day be worth the amount we'll spend riding the local jr trains around tokyo?

Hi there,

A 7-day JR Pass will certainly be worth it on this trip, even a 14-day JR Pass would help you make savings. That said, local travel within Tokyo does not cost much, and likely the 7-day pass + normal tickets would cost less.

However, the upgrade can be worth it with a day trip or two from Tokyo, especially if you go to places like Sendai, Nikko, Hakone and similar.

Kind regards,
Daniel
