JAPAN RAIL PASS AND SUICA CARD?

I'll be traveling to Japan for 11 days, landing in Tokyo and staying hear the Ebisu station for 6 days before planning to travel to Kyoto for the remaining 5 days. Seems that the JR Rail Pass is the way to go for the last 7 days of my trip. Is it wise to buy a Suica card for the first 4 days?

In addition, is it difficult to travel with two large suitcases and two carry-ons between Tokyo to Kyoto and then straight back to narita airport?

Last, I have tentative reservations at the Sakura Terrace, Sakura Terrace Gallery, and Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kyoto Ekimae. Has anyone stayed at these hotels? Which one is closest to the Kyoto train station, or are they all close by? Any good recommendations for a hotel in Kyoto?

Hello there,

Suica is a payment method, not some sort of discount option. That said, Suica makes life so much easier. You just swipe the card on the ticket gate when you enter and exit the station. You never have to buy any other ticket.

The Shinkansen will take you directly from Tokyo to Kyoto and you should have minimal effort getting there with 2 suitcases.

I do not have experience with this hotels but if you want the closest hotel, actually in the station and have the budget, then look at the Kyoto Granvia Hotel. Think it is really good. For other hotels I would use google maps to check the distance to the hotel.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
