Hi!
My sister and I are visiting our sister that lives in Sendai. We plan on being there for 10 days. What would the best value be for the Japan Rail Pass, if we want to travel to Kyoto and Tokyo, but also we are planning to fly in/out of Narita. I figure we would need to take the bullet train to Sendai from Narita, then spend a few days in Sendai, then go to Kyoto and then to Tokyo. Would I have to get the 14 day pass or would it be better to get the 7 day pass then just buy another ticket?
I would love some ideas for a travel itinerary!
Also, I have a sister that lives in Japan, she is unable to get a rail pass correct?

Thank you!
Janelle

Hello Janelle,

A 7 day JR Pass would be the best option when used for travel to Sendai - Kyoto and Tokyo. A 14 day JR Pass would work too but not be nearly as efficient.

A stop over at Hakone on the way back to Tokyo could be really nice. You can view Fuji from there and enjoy a Japanese Onsen stay.

The JR Pass is only for foreign visitors who enter Japan using a temporary visitor status. Your sister will not be able to use the JR Pass, unless she has such a visa.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
