My partner isn't happy with tunnels longer than about 2 km so I am trying to plan a trip of at least Osaka - Kyoto - Nagano - Hagi - Fuji - Osaka using the Rail Pass for 2 or 3 weeks. Is this possible without going through long tunnels? Is there a map I can use to plan this?
Is there a rail map showing the tunnels?
Hi there,
I'm not aware of any map that shows all tunnels. Possibly you can look at the rail line in Wikipedia and find the tunnels that way. That said, Japan is a mountainous country and tunnels are a frequent occurrence. I'm afraid it will not be possible to plan around them.
Japan is a very safe country and I have yet to hear of any accident in a tunnel.
Kind regards,
Daniel
