My son will be in Japan for 6 weeks, 4 weeks in a summer abroad class in the Kyoto region, and then 2 extra weeks to travel to Tokyo and other areas. We would like to buy a JR pass for 21 days. Can we buy a second JR pass, to cover the additional 3 weeks of his trip ? What do you recommend??

Hi there,

You can buy more than 1 pass if you'd like. However, keep in mind you do need to be using the pass for it to be cost-effective. Generally speaking, this is if you do at least one-way 2 intercity trips per week using the Shinkansen. Such as Tokyo -Kyoto.

You can also consider a regional pass if you don't plan to go on longer trips.

Lastly, try our fare calculator: www.jrpass.com/farecalculator to see if the pass helps you make savings.

Kind regards,
Daniel
