Hi,

My mother and I are flying to Japan 21 July 2018 - 27 July 2018. We will arrive at Haneda airport and go to our hotel in central Tokyo. After two days we are planning to go to Osaka and then Kyoto, and on the last day we are going back to Haneda airport. The questions are listed below:

  1. Would JR Pass cover the entire trip?

  2. Can we choose seats in advance? are there chances that we need to stand?

Thank you very much!

Hi there,

1.) Yes!

2.) You can select seats in person at any JR station once you have exchanged the JR Pass. Trains rarely sell out and I've yet to hear from a customer who had to stand because it was to busy on a Shinkansen during a normal day. Only during busy periods, like Golden Week and New Year is it recommend to reserve your seats 2-4 days in advance. Just to give you an idea of seat availability trains between Tokyo - Kyoto can carry over 1.000 seats and there's a train departing every 10 minutes. That's a lot of seats to go around :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel
