Hi, our family of 4 are planning to go to Fukuoka on March 2019 for a 7 day stay. Our itineraries will include day trips to Hiroshima/ Miyajima and also Nagasaki. Which is more economical, buying individual train tickets to these places or buying rail passes? If rail pass, a national or regional pass? If regional, what regional pass will cover these places? Thanks.

Hi there,
Have a look at this pass:
https://www.jrpass.com/regional-passes/sanyo-san-in-northern-kyushu-area-pass#regional_pass_type
It covers both travel to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is valid for 7 days and will help you make good savings compared to normal tickets.
Kind regards,
Daniel
