Entitled to JR Pass on Business trip

Hello,
I feel like I am a bit in an odd position.
I will enter Japan next month on a business trip for nearly 3 months, but at first I have 2 weeks holiday in which I want to travel the country and of course, make use of the JR Pass.

But as all of the sources of the JR Pass say is, that it depends on the type of visa you get on entering the country if you are eligible or not and that a "short term stay" is different from a "temporary visitor". I have a visa exemption, so I am not sure if I will be eligible or not, because the most time of my stay is because of the business reason, and saying my whole stay is a touristic purpose for "sight seeing" would be incorrect.

Would I still be eligible for the pass? I mean, I am not having an extra visa, because it is a business trip, where I am not being paid by a Japanese company.
The embassy in my country also confirms that I do not need a special visa. They also confirm that it is indifferent if I enter on tourism purpose or business trip purpose, which I feel, contradicts the statements on the official JR Pass website.

Can someone give me some clarity on that?

Hi there,

At the end of the day, it is very simple. When you enter Japan using a temporary visitor (V) visa, then you can use the JR Pass.

If you have any other kind of visa, waiver, etc, then you can't use the JR Pass. That's all there is to it.

What may confuse you is that visa exception means that you do not need to apply for a visa ahead of time, but will require one upon arrival.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Hey, thank you for the answer!

But what confuses me now is, that you wrote:

...visa exception means that you do need to apply for a visa ahead of time.... But how I understand is that the visa exception means that I explicitly don't need a visa beforehand, but getting one at arrival.

Also, that means when I use the "visa exception" on entering I only can get the temporary visitor visa? I mean that is what I want in the end anyways.

Kind regards

Hi there,

It should have been: "do not" - this is now updated.

Ah okay,

so as long as I enter on the visa exemption because of a business trip, I am eligible for the pass?
