Hi Daniel-San,

We (4 of us) wish to visit Shirakawa-go. But because of limited time we have in Japan (total of 9 days for Tokyo, Kyoto and surrounding), so the only chance we will see Shirakawa-go is by doing a daytrip Tokyo-Shirakawa-go-Tokyo.

My question: is it possible?

If possible, then could you please advise of way to accomplish the trip by utilizing jrpass as much as possible.

Thank in advise for your help.

Hello there,

1.) Yes, it is possible but involved a good amount of travel. First the train from Tokyo - Takayama, about 247 Minutes and then the express bus for about an other 90 minutes. Then the same trip back. As such while possible, you'd spend most of the day traveling to see Shirakawa-go. I can't decide if this is worth it for you but there are many other nice and easier side trips to be made from Tokyo.

The train is covered by the JR Pass to Takayama, the bus from there to Shirakawa-go is not.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Dear Daniel,
Thank you for the info. Will try to look into other option as well.

My other question is whether I can book Shinkansen before activation of Jrpass?
Thanks
